Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Curalern Health collects, why we collect it and how we look after it. It should be read together with our POPIA Privacy Notice.

Last updated: this policy is reviewed regularly and updated when our practices change.

1. Who we are

Curalern Health is an independently branded healthcare education platform serving South African readers. We publish general educational content and respond to general enquiries. We do not sell, market or administer healthcare products, and we do not select, compare, recommend or advise which product suits an individual.

2. Three different kinds of contact

It is important to distinguish between three things, because your information is handled differently in each case:

  • General educational enquiries. A question about our content or about how healthcare works. Details you send are used only to respond to you. They are not shared with any product provider.
  • Specific product-information requests. A separate journey in which you expressly ask to be contacted about product information. Only where you make that request and give consent will the relevant details be shared with the specifically identified third party so that its representative can contact you. That third party is currently Affinity Life Limited, and you will be told this before you consent.
  • Educational email subscriptions. A voluntary, optional choice to give us your email address so that we can send you Curalern Health educational updates, new guides and related content. Subscribing is not an enquiry, not a product-information request and not a referral, and it does not result in your details being shared with a product provider.

3. Information we collect

  • Information you give us: for a general enquiry, your name, email address, cell number and your message. These are emailed to us so that we can reply, and are not stored in a website database or shared with any product provider.
  • Information for a product-information request: where such a journey is offered and you choose to use it, the information needed to action the request you have made, which you will be shown before you submit it.
  • Information for an educational email subscription: your email address only, together with the record of the consent you gave. We do not ask for your name, telephone number or any health information in order to subscribe.
  • Technical information: basic, non-identifying information such as device type and pages visited, used to keep the website working well.

Please do not send medical history, chronic-condition details, identity numbers or banking details through our general enquiry form. We do not ask for them there.

4. Why we use your information

  • To respond to a general enquiry with educational information.
  • Where you have expressly requested product information and consented, to pass the relevant details to the identified third party so that they can contact you about that request.
  • Where you have subscribed, to send you Curalern Health educational updates, new guides and related content, to confirm your subscription and to manage unsubscribe requests.
  • To improve the clarity, accuracy and usefulness of our content.

We do not sell your personal information, including subscriber email addresses, and we do not share it for unrelated marketing purposes. Sharing details with an identified third party happens only where you have asked for that contact and consented to it.

5. Who your information may be shared with

  • Service providers who help us operate this website, under confidentiality obligations.
  • An email-service provider acting on our behalf and on our instructions, which processes and stores subscriber email addresses so that subscriptions can be managed, subscription confirmations and educational emails delivered, and unsubscribe requests honoured. That provider may not use subscriber information for its own purposes.
  • A specifically identified product provider, currently Affinity Life Limited, but only where you have expressly requested product information and consented to being contacted by them. Once your details are with that provider, they handle the product discussion, available options and any quotation or application process, and their own privacy terms apply to what they do with your information. Subscribing to educational updates does not result in your details being shared with that or any other product provider.
  • Any party we are required by law to disclose to.

6. Legal basis and consent

We process your information on the basis of the consent you give when you contact us, and in order to respond to a request you have made. Consent to a product-information referral is separate and specific. Consent to receive educational updates by email is also separate and voluntary: you give it by ticking the consent box when subscribing, and you may withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email we send you or by contacting us. You may withdraw any consent at any time.

7. How long we keep information

Enquiry information. We keep enquiry details only for as long as necessary to respond and to meet any legal record-keeping obligations, after which the information is deleted or de-identified.

Subscription information. We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed, and afterwards only as long as reasonably necessary to keep a record of your unsubscribe request or suppression, and to meet compliance or legal obligations.

8. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and we encourage you to share only what is necessary.

9. Your rights

You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You may also object to further contact or withdraw consent to a referral you previously requested. If you subscribe to our educational updates, you can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send you, or by asking us to remove you. Requests can be sent through our contact page.

10. Cookies

We keep cookie use to a minimum and use only what is needed for the website to function and for basic, aggregated usage understanding. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The most current version will always be published on this page.
